The La Arena District is located in the province of Piura of Piura Region in northwestern Peru . The district has an area of 160.22 km². In the 2017 census, 38,734 people lived in the district. In 1993 the population was 28,742, in 2007 34,584. The administrative seat is in the small town of La Arena .
Geographical location
The La Arena district is located in the west of the Piura province. It has a length in NW-SE direction of about 26 km and a width of about 9 km. The district is located 18 km south of the regional capital Piura . It stretches west of the Piura River across the arid landscape of the coastal desert in northwestern Peru. Irrigated agriculture is used.
The La Arena district is bordered to the north by the district Catacaos , on the east side of the Rio Piura to the district Cura Mori , in the southeast of the district El Tallán , the south by the district La Union and in the west to the district Miguel Checa ( province Sullana ).
