Frank Matthias Kammel

Frank Matthias Kammel (* 1962 ) is a German art historian and director of the Bavarian National Museum in Munich .

Career

Kammel studied art history and classical archeology in Berlin . From 1987 he worked as a research assistant at the sculpture collection of the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin .

In 1995 he moved to the Germanic National Museum in Nuremberg , where he was head of the sculpture collection and the collection of historical components. He wrote numerous publications, primarily on the sculpture of the Middle Ages and the early modern period , as well as on museum history and cultural-historical topics.

Frank Matthias Kammel has been General Director of the Bavarian National Museum in Munich since July 2019.

He also became known as an expert on religious folk art for the TV show Kunst und Krempel on Bavarian radio .
