La Arena is a city in the Piura Province in the Piura region of northwest Peru . In the 2017 census, the population was 14,729. Ten years earlier this was 14,184. The city is the administrative seat of the district of the same name . Irrigated agriculture is practiced in the vicinity of the city.
Geographical location
La Arena is located in the arid coastal desert of northwestern Peru at an altitude of 29 m . The small town is located 18.5 km south-southwest of the city center of the metropolis Piura . Two kilometers east of the city, the Río Piura flows south. The national road 1N leads from Piura past La Arena to Sechura further south .
