The district Tambogrande (also District Tambo Grande ) is located in the province of Piura of Piura region in the far northwest of Peru . The district has an area of 1442.81 km². At the 2017 census, there were 107,495 inhabitants in the district. In 1993 the population was 63,183, in 2007 96,451. The administrative center is the small town of Tambogrande on the right bank of the Río Piura .
Geographical location
The district of Tambogrande is located in the northeast of the province of Piura, only the adjacent district of Las Lomas is further north. The Tambogrande district is located northeast of the regional capital Piura . It lies at the foot of the Peruvian Western Cordillera . The Río Piura River crosses the southern part of the district to the west. On the northern border of the district, above the city of Las Lomas, there is the reservoir of the San Lorenzo dam .
The district Tambogrande borders in the north to the district Las Lomas, on the east by the province of Ayabaca , in the southeast on the Morropón Province , in the southwest of the district Castilla , on the west by the district of Piura and to the northwest by the province Sullana .
