The Chulucanas district is located in the Morropón province of the Piura region in northwestern Peru . The district has an area of 871.19 km². In the 2017 census, there were 82,521 residents in the district. In 1993 the population was 74,089, in 2007 76,205. The administrative seat is the provincial capital Chulucanas .
Geographical location
The Chulucanas district is located in the northwest of the Morropón province. It has a longitudinal extent in SW-NE direction of about 40 km and a width of about 15 km. The district includes the foothills of the Andes in the northeast. The highest point is at an altitude of 1785 m . The river valley of the Río San Jorge forms the north-eastern boundary of the district. The Río Piura flows through the middle of the district in a north-westerly direction. To the southwest of the river lies the desert-like, arid coastal plain of northwestern Peru. Irrigated agriculture is practiced at the foot of the mountains.
The district of Chulucanas borders in the southwest and northwest on the province of Piura , in the northeast on the province of Ayabaca and in the southeast on the districts of Santo Domingo , Morropón and La Matanza .
