The Buenos Aires District is located in the Morropón Province of the Piura Region in northwestern Peru . The district was established on January 20, 1944. It has an area of ​​248 km². At the 2017 census, there were 9,735 residents in the district. In 1993 the population was 10,111, in 2007 8753. The administrative center is the 135  m high town of Buenos Aires with 3609 inhabitants (as of 2017). Buenos Aires is located about 30 km southeast of the provincial capital Chulucanas .

Geographical location

The Buenos Aires District is centrally located in the Morropón Province. The district extends over the western flank of the Peruvian Western Cordillera . The Río Piura crosses the western part of the district in a north-westerly direction. Its right tributary, the Río Corrales, flows west along the northwestern district boundary.

The district of Buenos Aires borders in the southwest on the district La Matanza , in the north on the districts Morropón , Santa Catalina de Mossa and Yamango , in the east on the district San Juan de Bigote and in the southeast on the district Salitral .
