The Santo Domingo district is located in the Morropón province of the Piura region in northwestern Peru . The district was founded on November 4, 1887. It has an area of ​​187.32 km². At the 2017 census, 5,960 people lived in the district. In 1993 the population was 9310, in 2007 7957. The administrative seat is the 1475  m high village of Santo Domingo with 1035 inhabitants (as of 2017). Santo Domingo is located about 33 km east-northeast of the provincial capital Chulucanas .

Geographical location

The Santo Domingo district is located in the north of the Morropón province. The district is located in the west of the Peruvian Western Cordillera . The area is drained to the southwest towards the Río Piura . The northeastern district boundary runs along the watershed to the catchment area of the Río Chira, which runs further north .

The district of Santo Domingo borders in the north on the district Frías ( province Ayabaca ), in the southeast on the districts Chalaco and Santa Catalina de Mossa , in the southwest on the district Morropón and in the far west on the district Chulucanas .
