The Morropón district is located in the Morropón province of the Piura region in northwestern Peru . The district was founded on January 2, 1857. It has an area of ​​169.96 km². At the 2017 census, 15,239 people lived in the district. In 1993 the population was 14,652, in 2007 14,421. The administrative center is the 131  m high town of Morropón with 8949 inhabitants (as of 2017). Morropón is located 24 km southeast of the provincial capital Chulucanas .

Geographical location

The Morropón district is located in the central north of the Morropón province. It is located on the east bank of the Río Piura below the confluence of its tributary Río Corrales.

The Morropón district borders in the southwest on the La Matanza district , in the northwest on the Chulucanas district , in the northeast on the Santo Domingo district , in the southeast on the Santa Catalina de Mossa district and in the south on the Buenos Aires district .
