The Mochumí district is located in the Lambayeque Province in the Lambayeque region in northwestern Peru . The district was founded on October 26, 1824. It has an area of ​​103.7 km². At the 2017 census, 18,401 people lived in the district. In 1993 the population was 16,628, in 2007 18,043. The district administration is located in the 36  m high town of Mochumí with 7188 inhabitants (as of 2017). The city of Mochumí is located 25 km north of the regional capital Chiclayo on the road from Lambayeque to Olmos .

Geographical location

The Mochumí district is located in the south of the Lambayeque Province. The district is located in the coastal plain of northwestern Peru. Irrigated agriculture is used.

The Mochumí district is bordered by the Mórrope district to the west, the Túcume district to the north, the Pítipo , Ferreñafe and Pueblo Nuevo districts to the east (all three in the Ferreñafe province ) and the Lambayeque district to the south .
