The district of San José is located in the Lambayeque Province in the Lambayeque region of northwestern Peru . The district was founded on November 17, 1894. It has an area of 45.2 km². The 2017 census counted 16,128 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 7219, in 2007 it was 12,078. The district administration is located in the 8 m high coastal city of San José with 10,686 inhabitants (as of 2017). San José is 10 km southwest of the provincial capital Lambayeque and 14 km west of the regional capital Chiclayo .
Geographical location
The district of San José is located on the Pacific coast in the extreme south of the province of Lambayeque.
The district of San José borders in the north on the district Lambayeque and in the southeast on the district Pimentel ( province Chiclayo ).
