The Picsi district is located in the Chiclayo province in the Lambayeque region in northwestern Peru . The district was founded on November 12, 1823. On January 29, 1998, the east and south of the district were separated and have since formed the newly established Tumán and Pomalca districts . The Picsi district extends over an area of 56.92 km². The 2017 census counted 12,704 inhabitants. Ten years earlier, the population was 8942. The district administration is located in the 40 m high town of Picsi with 9251 inhabitants (as of 2017). Picsi is 10 km northeast of the city center of the regional and provincial capital Chiclayo . In addition to Picsi, there is the larger town of Capote with 1763 inhabitants.
The Picsi district is located in the coastal plain of northwestern Peru, east of the city of Chiclayo . The Río Chancay runs further south. Irrigated agriculture is practiced in the district.
The Picsi district borders in the southwest on the José Leonardo Ortiz district , in the west on the Lambayeque district ( Lambayeque province ), in the north on the Ferreñafe and Manuel Antonio Mesones Muro districts (both in the Ferreñafe province ), in the east on the Tumán district as well in the south to the Pomalca district.
