Robert Andreozzi

Robert Andreozzi (born August 17, 1932 in La Seyne-sur-Mer , Var département ; † March 30, 2020 ) was a French opera singer ( tenor ).

Life

Robert Andreozzi initially worked as a technical draftsman . However, he then studied singing at the Toulouse Conservatory and then at the Paris Conservatory . In 1960 he made his debut under the stage name “Robert Marviaux” at the Théâtre Mogador in Paris as Ajax II in the Offenbach opera La Belle Hélène .

In the same year he was engaged at the Opéra-Comique in Paris, where he remained in the engagement for over 10 years and was one of the outstanding artists there in the 1960s. He made his debut at the Opéra-Comique as Beppe in I Pagliacci . In particular, he sang the tenor buffo and character roles for tenor in French operas such as Franz in Les contes d'Hoffmann , Remendado in Carmen , Bardolfo in Falstaff and Schmidt in Werther . He also sang in operettas, where he appeared with great success, especially in the works of Offenbach. As an operetta performer, his special acting talent was repeatedly highlighted in reviews.

In January 1962 Andreozzi made his debut as host in Der Rosenkavalier at the Grand Opéra Paris , where he mostly appeared in small and medium-sized roles. In 1963 he was part of the premiere cast of the opera The Last Savage by Gian Carlo Menotti at the Opéra-Comique .

He has made guest appearances at numerous opera houses in the French provinces. He sang regularly at the Monte Carlo Opera House , where he was a buffalo player. a. when Pedrillo appeared in Die Entführung aus dem Serail , but could also be heard in numerous lyrical roles, such as Ferrando in Così fan tutte , Jean in Le jongleur de Notre-Dame , and in character roles (Schiuski in Boris Godunow ).

In the 1980s he switched to directing. As a professor he worked at the Conservatory of Aix-en-Provence . He continued his stage work, mainly in the field of operetta, until the end of the 1980s.

Recordings by Andreozzi were a. a. published by Philips ( La Belle Hélène ). He can also be heard in the servants' roles in a cross-section of Les contes d'Hoffmann (with Tony Poncet and René Bianco ), as well as in a complete Werther recording.

Andreozzi was married and had a son and a daughter. He died at the end of March 2020 at the age of 87 in the Toulon municipal association .
