The province of Julcán is located in the La Libertad region in northwestern Peru . It has an area of 1101.39 km². At the 2017 census, 28,024 people lived in the province. Ten years earlier the population was 32,985. The administrative seat is the small town of Julcán .
Geographical location
The province of Julcán is centrally located in the La Libertad region, about 60 km east of the city of Trujillo in the Peruvian Western Cordillera . The province is roughly circular in shape with a diameter of about 32 km. The province extends over the upper catchment area of the Río Virú , which flows in a south-westerly direction to the Pacific Ocean .
The province of Julcán is bordered by the province of Otuzco in the north, the province of Santiago de Chuco in the east and southeast , the province of Virú in the southwest and the province of Trujillo in the west .
