The Trujillo Province is located in the La Libertad region in northwestern Peru . The province was founded in 1821. It has an area of 1768.65 km². At the 2017 census, 970,016 people lived in the province. In 1993 the population was 597,315, in 2007 811,979. The administrative center is the city of Trujillo .
Geographical location
The province of Trujillo extends over an approximately 53 km wide stretch of coast on the Pacific coast in the center of the La Libertad region. The province extends up to 44 km inland. The Río Moche River flows through the province in a south-westerly direction. The mountains of the Peruvian Western Cordillera rise to the northwest and southeast of the river valley . The metropolitan area of the city of Trujillo lies on the coast.
The province of Trujillo borders in the northwest with the province Ascope , in the northeast with the province Otuzco , in the east with the province Julcán and in the southeast with the province Virú .
Administrative division
The province of Trujillo is divided into the following eleven districts. The Trujillo district is the seat of the provincial administration.
