The district of Huanchaco is located in the province of Trujillo in the La Libertad region in western Peru . The 333.9 km² district had 68,409 inhabitants at the 2017 census. In 1993 the population was 19,935, in 2007 it was 44,806. The administrative center is the coastal town of Huanchaco, 12 km northwest of Trujillo .

Geographical location

The Huanchaco District is located in the northwest of the Trujillo Province. It stretches from the Pacific coast over the desert-like coastal plain to the mountains of the Peruvian western cordillera . This reaches heights of over 2000  m in the east of the district . The district of Huanchaco borders in the north on the province of Ascope , in the northeast on the district Simbal , in the east on the district Laredo , in the southeast on the district El Porvenir and in the south on the districts Trujillo and Víctor Larco Herrera .
