Huanchaco is a beach town in Peru . The population was 11,012 in the 2013 census.
It is located about 13 kilometers northwest of Trujillo . The beach promenade has many restaurants known for their fish dishes, as well as a handicraft market. A popular photo motif are the Caballitos de Totora , small reed boats that have been used to fish for thousands of years. Other sights are the pier at the harbor and the Baroque-style church "Virgen del Perpetuo Socorro" from the colonial era in the upper part of the village.
