Moche is a coastal city on the Pacific coast of northwest Peru . The population was 20,549 in the 2017 census. Ten years earlier the population was 16,000. The city is the administrative seat of the district of the same name .
Moche is 7 kilometers southeast of Trujillo city center . The river Río Moche flows into the sea about 3 kilometers further west. The national road 1N ( Panamericana ) passes the city. Nearby are the archaeological sites of Huaca del Sol ("Sun Temple") and Huaca de la Luna ("Moon Temple").
