Huaca del Sol

The Huaca del Sol ( Temple of the Sun , and Sun Pyramid called) is a pyramid , which in the Moche valley near Trujillo in northern Peru by the Moche was built. The facility was originally 340 m × 220 m in size and 41 m high and is located on an 18 m high step terrace. It is the largest massive structure in continental America . About 140 million adobe bricks were needed to build the seven-tier building .

After finding gold, the Spaniards destroyed a large part of the building in search of more gold, including by diverting the river.

Opposite the sun pyramid is the Huaca de la Luna , the moon pyramid .
