The Otuzco Province is located in the La Libertad region in northwestern Peru . It has an area of ​​2110.77 km². At the 2017 census, 77,862 people lived in the province. Ten years earlier the population was 88,817. The administrative seat is the city of Otuzco .

Geographical location

The province of Otuzco is centrally located in the La Libertad region, about 55 km east-northeast of the city of Trujillo in the Peruvian Western Cordillera . The province has a maximum longitudinal extent in WNW-OSE direction of about 74 km. The Río Chicama (Río Huancay) and Río Moche (Río Otuzco) drain the area to the Pacific Ocean .

The province of Otuzco borders in the north with the province Gran Chimú , in the northeast with the province Cajabamba ( region Cajamarca ), in the east with the province Sánchez Carrión , in the southeast with the provinces Santiago de Chuco and Julcán , in the west with the province Trujillo as well as in Northwest to the province of Ascope .
