The Otuzco District is located in the Otuzco Province in the La Libertad region in western Peru . The district was founded on September 10, 1941. It has an area of ​​402 km². The 2017 census counted 24,169 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 21,786, in 2007 it was 25,265. The administrative seat of the district is the provincial capital Otuzco at an altitude of 2641  m with 12,396 inhabitants (as of 2017).

Geographical location

The Otuzco district is located in the Peruvian Western Cordillera, in the middle of the Otuzco province. The Río Otuzco with its source rivers Río Huangamarca and Río Pollo drains the central area in a south-westerly direction to the Río Moche . The latter flows along the southwestern district boundary to the southwest. The Río Chicama flows along the northeastern district boundary to the northwest.

The Otuzco district borders in the southwest with the district Poroto , in the west with the districts La Cuesta and Sinsicap , in the northwest with the district Marmot , in the northeast with the districts Lucma and Huaranchal , in the east with the districts Charat and Usquil and in the south with the districts Agallpampa and Salpo .
