The Usquil District is located in the Otuzco Province in the La Libertad region in western Peru . The district was founded on January 2, 1857. It has an area of 467 km². The 2017 census counted 21,388 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 24,203, in 2007 26,268. The administrative seat of the district is the 3018 m high village of Usquil with 948 inhabitants (as of 2017). Usquil is about 20 km east-northeast of the provincial capital Otuzco .
Geographical location
The Usquil District is located in the Peruvian Western Cordillera in the central east of the Otuzco Province. The Río Chicama (also Río Grande) crosses the district in a north-westerly direction.
The district of Usquil borders in the southwest on the district Agallpampa , in the west on the districts Otuzco and Charat , in the northwest on the district Huaranchal , in the northeast on the district Cachachi ( province Cajabamba ), in the east on the district Sanagorán ( province Sánchez Carrión ) as well as in the southeast to the Quiruvilca district ( Santiago de Chuco province ).
