The province of Cajabamba is located in the Cajamarca region in northwestern Peru . The province has an area of 1807.64 km². At the 2017 census, 75,687 people lived in the province. Ten years earlier the population was 74,287. The administrative seat is the small town of Cajabamba .
Geographical location
The province of Cajabamba is located in the extreme southeast of the Cajamarca region, about 50 km southeast of the regional capital Cajamarca . The province is located in the Peruvian Western Cordillera . It has a longitudinal extension in the WSW-ONE direction of 70 km. The province extends in the east to the Río Marañón . The Río Crisnejas runs along the northeastern provincial border. Together with its two source rivers, Río Cajamarca and Río Condebamba , it drains the area to the northeast.
The province of Cajabamba borders the province of San Marcos in the north, the province of Bolívar (region La Libertad ) in the east, the province Sánchez Carrión (region La Libertad) in the south and the provinces Otuzco , Gran Chimú (both in the La Libertad region) and the province of Cajamarca .
