The Cutervo Province is located in the Cajamarca region in northwestern Peru . The province has an area of 3,028.46 km². At the 2017 census, 120,723 people lived in the province. Ten years earlier the population was 138,213. In the east of the province lies the Cutervo National Park . The administrative seat of the province is the city of Cutervo .
Geographical location
The province of Cutervo is centrally located in the Cajamarca region, about 100 km north of the regional capital Cajamarca . The province extends in the west to the Peruvian Western Cordillera , in the east to the river valley of the Río Marañón (upper reaches of the Amazon). The Río Chamaya flows along the northern provincial border . Its right source river, the Río Chotano , flows through the west of the province in a northerly direction. The Cutervo River flows along the southeastern provincial border . The province has a longitudinal extent in the WSW-ONO direction of about 70 km and a width of about 40 km.
The province of Cutervo borders in the north on the province of Jaén , in the east on the province Utcubamba ( region Amazonas ), in the south on the province Chota and in the west on the province Ferreñafe ( region Lambayeque ).
Administrative division
The province of Cutervo is divided into the following 15 districts. The Cutervo district is the seat of the provincial administration.
