Left tributaries Río Huayllabamba

The Río Chamaya is a 71 km long left tributary of the Río Marañón , left headwaters of the Amazon , in Peru . The Río Chamaya flows through the administrative region of Cajamarca , separating the province of Jaén from the province of Cutervo further south .

River course

The Río Chamaya is formed 6.5 km east-southeast of the small town of Pucará at the confluence of the Río Huancabamba (left) and Río Chotano (right). The river initially flows 25 km east, before turning north and finally north-east. The national road 4C follows the course of the river. At river kilometer 31, the Río Huayllabamba flows into the Río Chamaya on the left. This finally flows 14 km southeast of the city of Jaén into the Río Marañón.

Catchment area

The Río Chamaya drains an area of ​​around 8000 km² on the east side of the Peruvian Western Cordillera . In the west, the continental divide separates the catchment area of the Río Chamaya from the tributaries of the Pacific Ocean . In the northeast is the catchment area of ​​the Río Chinchipe , in the southeast are the catchment areas of Río Malleta and Río Cutervo .
