The province of Hualgayoc is located in the Cajamarca region in northwestern Peru . The province has an area of ​​777.25 km². At the 2017 census, 77,944 people lived in the province. In 1993 the population was 75,806, in 2007 it was 89,813. The administrative seat is the city of Bambamarca .

Geographical location

The province of Hualgayoc is centrally located in the Cajamarca region, about 45 km north of the regional capital Cajamarca . The province lies east of the Peruvian Western Cordillera . It has a longitudinal extent in SW-NE direction of about 32 km and a width of about 20 km.

The province of Hualgayoc borders on the province of Chota in the north, on the province of Celendín in the east and south-east , on the province of Cajamarca in the south, on the provinces of San Pablo and San Miguel in the south-west and on the province of Santa Cruz in the west .

Administrative division

The province of Hualgayoc is divided into the following three districts. The Bambamarca district is the seat of the provincial administration.
