The district of Cajabamba is located in the province of Cajabamba in the region of Cajamarca in northwestern Peru . The district has an area of 192.29 km². The 2017 census counted 31,222 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 25,704, in 2007 28,079. The seat of the district and provincial administration is the city of Cajabamba at an altitude of 2654 m with 18,603 inhabitants (as of 2017). Cajabamba is located almost 75 km southeast of the regional capital Cajamarca .
Geographical location
The district of Cajabamba is located in the Andean highlands east of the Peruvian Western Cordillera in the central south of the province of Cajabamba. The Río Condebamba runs along the western district boundary to the north.
The district of Cajabamba borders in the northwest with the district Cachachi , in the north with the district Condebamba , in the northeast with the district Sitacocha , in the south with the district Marcabal ( province Sánchez Carrión ) and in the southwest with the district Sanagorán (also in the province Sánchez Carrión) ).
