The district of Cachachi is located in the province of Cajabamba in the region of Cajamarca in northwestern Peru . The district was founded on February 11, 1855. It has an area of ​​820.81 km². The 2017 census counted 23,524 residents. In 1993 the population was 21,785, in 2007 24,305. The seat of the district administration is the village of Cachachi at an altitude of 3237  m with 405 inhabitants (as of 2017). Cachachi is about 30 km northwest of the provincial capital Cajabamba .

Geographical location

The district of Cachachi is located in the Peruvian Western Cordillera in the west of the province of Cajabamba. The Río Cajamarca runs along the northeastern district boundary , the Río Condebamba forms the eastern district boundary. In the west, the watershed of the Western Cordillera forms the district boundary . The Río Chimin, a left tributary of the Río Condebamba, drains much of the district.

The district of Cachachi borders in the south with the district Sanagorán ( province Sánchez Carrión ), in the south-west with the districts Usquil and Huaranchal (both in the province Otuzco ), in the west with the district Sayapullo ( province Gran Chimú ), in the northwest with the district Cospán ( Province of Cajamarca ), in the north to the districts of Jesús (also in the province of Cajamarca) and Pedro Gálvez ( province of San Marcos ), in the northeast to the district of Eduardo Villanueva (also in the province of San Marcos) and in the east to the districts of Condebamba and Cajabamba .
