The district of Sanagorán is located in the province of Sánchez Carrión in the La Libertad region of western Peru . The district was founded on November 3, 1900. It has an area of 337 km². The 2017 census counted 12,922 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 10,080, in 2007 12,983. The administrative seat of the district is the 2670 m high village of Sanagorán with 396 inhabitants (as of 2017). Sanagorán is located 11 km west-northwest of the provincial capital Huamachuco .
Geographical location
The district of Sanagorán is located on the eastern flank of the Peruvian Western Cordillera in the far west of the province of Sánchez Carrión. It has a longitudinal extent in SSW-NNE direction of almost 33 km. The Río Condebamba flows along the northeastern district boundary and drains the area to the north. The western district boundary lies on the continental watershed .
The district of Sanagorán borders in the south on the district Quiruvilca ( province Santiago de Chuco ), in the west on the district Usquil ( province Otuzco ), in the north on the district Cachachi ( province Cajabamba ), in the northeast on the districts Cajabamba (also in the province) Cajabamba) and Marcabal and in the east to the district of Huamachuco .
