The Quiruvilca district is located in the Santiago de Chuco Province in the La Libertad region in northwestern Peru . The district was established on November 13, 1916. It has an area of 549.14 km². The 2017 census counted 12,291 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 13,440, in 2007 it was 14,060. The administrative seat is the small town of Quiruvilca at an altitude of 4008 m with 5181 inhabitants (as of 2017). Quiruvilca is 80 km east-northeast of the regional capital Trujillo . There are numerous mines in the area that mine silver and other ores.
Geographical location
The Quiruvilca district is located in the Peruvian Western Cordillera in the northwest of the Santiago de Chuco province. The rivers Río Chicama and Río Moche have their headwaters in the district. The southeastern part of the district is drained via the Río Tablachaca , the right tributary of the Río Santa .
The Quiruvilca district borders in the southwest with the districts Huaso and Calamarca , in the west with the district Julcán (all three districts in the province Julcán ), in the northwest with the district Agallpampa ( province Otuzco ), in the north with the districts Usquil (also in the Province of Otuzco) and Sanagorán ( Province of Sánchez Carrión ), in the northeast to the district of Huamachuco (also in the province of Sánchez Carrión), in the east to the district of Cachicadán and in the south to the district of Santiago de Chuco .
