The Sarín district is located in the Sánchez Carrión Province in the La Libertad region of western Peru . The district was founded on November 3, 1900. It has an area of 335 km². The 2017 census counted 9156 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 7831, in 2007 it was 8181. The administrative seat of the district is the 2792 m high village of Sarín with 1050 inhabitants (as of 2017). Sarín is 19 km southeast of the provincial capital Huamachuco .
Geographical location
The Sarín district is located on the eastern flank of the Peruvian Western Cordillera in the central south of the Sánchez Carrión province. The maximum length in east-west direction is 34 km. The area is largely drained by the Río Chusgón , a tributary of the Río Marañón , to the north. Only the extreme southeast is drained via the Río San Sebastian to the east to the Río Marañón.
The sarin district is bordered to the south by the district Sitabamba , in the southwest of the district Cachicadan (both in the province of Santiago de Chuco ), on the west by District Huamachuco , in the northwest on the district Curgo and in the northeast on the district Chugay .
