The Charat district is located in the Otuzco Province in the La Libertad region in western Peru . The district was founded on May 14, 1876. It has an area of 65.8 km². The 2017 census counted 2,626 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 3598, in 2007 it was 3095. The district administration is located in the 2268 m high village of Charat with 203 inhabitants (as of 2017). Charat is located 15 km northeast of the provincial capital Otuzco .
Geographical location
The Charat district is centrally located in the Otuzco province. Along the northern district boundary , the Río Chicama (in the upper reaches of the Rio Grande) runs to the west.
The district Charat bordered on the west by the district Otuzco , the north by the district Huaranchal and to the east and the south by the district Usquil .
