The Sinsicap district is located in the Otuzco Province in the La Libertad region in western Peru . The district was founded on April 25, 1861. It has an area of ​​453 km². The 2017 census counted 7,550 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 7,634, in 2007 8,271. The district administration is located in the 2284  m high village of Sinsicap with 353 inhabitants (as of 2017). Sinsicap is located almost 22 km west-northwest of the provincial capital Otuzco .

Geographical location

The Sinsicap district is located in the far northwest of the Otuzco province. The northern part of the district lies in the catchment area of the Río Chicama , the southern part in that of the Río Moche .

The Sinsicap district borders in the southwest with the Simbal district ( Trujillo province ), in the west and northwest with the Chicama district ( Ascope province ), in the northeast with the Marmot district ( Gran Chimú province ), in the southeast with the Otuzco district ( Otuzco province ) and in the south to the districts of La Cuesta and Paranday .
