The Salpo district is located in the Otuzco Province in the La Libertad region in western Peru . The district was founded on December 24, 1847. It has an area of ​​195 km². The 2017 census counted 6403 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 6,992, in 2007 it was 6437. The district administration is located in the 3439  m high village of Salpo with 620 inhabitants (as of 2017). Salpo is about 12 km south-southwest of the provincial capital Otuzco .

Geographical location

The Salpo district is located in the southwest of the Otuzco province. The Río Moche flows along the northwestern district border to the southwest and drains the area.

The Salpo district borders in the southwest and in the west with the districts Laredo and Poroto ( province Trujillo ), in the north with the district Otuzco , in the northeast with the Agallpampa , in the east with the district Mache and in the south with the district Carabamba ( province Julcán ) .
