The 1992 Murphys Irish Professional Championship was a professional snooker tournament in the 1991/92 season without affecting the world rankings. The tournament was held to determine the all-Irish professional champions from May 18 to 21, 1992 at the Jury's Hotel in the Irish city of Cork . The winner in an all-Northern Irish final was Joe Swail with a 9-1 win over Jason Prince . There are no records of any high breaks.

Prize money

The tournament was sponsored by Murphys . However, compared to the previous edition, there was only a fraction of the prize money, which was now just £ 3,000 , all of which went to the winner of the tournament.

Tournament course

The Irish Professional Championship was first held in 1947 and was held up to and including 1981 on a challenge basis. Since then, all tournaments have been played with several participants in the knockout system . In the mid-1980s, the World Federation began to subsidize the tournament, but when the subsidies ended in 1989, the tournament was also discontinued. The last title holder at the time was Alex Higgins , who decided not to participate in 1992. Only after Murphys had found a sponsor, the tournament could be revived. In 1992, 34 Irish and Northern Irish players took part in the tournament, eight of whom were seeded for the main round and there met eight qualifiers in the round of 16. In the knockout system, the winner was played out. The mode remained the same until the finale with Best of 9 Frames , only in the endgame was another mode used with the Best of 17 Frames mode.
