final

Ken Doherty and Stephen Murphy had both only been professional players for a few years, but both had achieved some success. Doherty made it into the final almost safely and only had to give up a few frames in his 6: 3 semi-final win over last year's finalist Jason Prince . With Stephen Murphy things looked completely different, after all he had defeated defending champion Joe Swail 5-4 in the quarterfinals . His semi-final victory against Martin O'Neill was all the clearer with 6: 1 , the surprise of the tournament. No exact frame results are available from the final itself, but Doherty continued his triumphant advance and also won with a 102 break with 9: 2.
