The third event of the Strachan Challenge 1992/93 was a snooker tournament of the 1992/93 season , which was held from February 1 to 6, 1993. It was the last of a series of three minor ranking tournaments that was held for the first time this season. At the tournaments there were points for the world rankings , but only barely a tenth of what was awarded at the established tournaments. For the second time after Event 1, the venue was Jimmy White's Snooker Club in Aldershot, south of London.
Event 2 winner Troy Shaw lost his opening match to Event 1 winner Joe Swail . With Tony Drago from Malta and Ken Doherty from Ireland, however, two aspiring players who had already moved up into the top 32 reached the final. Doherty had just become Irish professional champions and won the Welsh Open just a week earlier . But even though Drago had never made it past the quarter-finals of a ranking tournament before, he won the final 9-7. It was one of two titles in his professional career and the only one that played for ranking points.
The attempt with the minor ranking tournaments was discontinued after only one season. The Strachan Challenge continued for another year, with no ranking points and only two events. In the 2010s, the idea of the reduced ranking tournaments with the Players Tour Championship was successfully taken up again.
Prize money / world ranking points
Prize money and points for the world rankings were the same in all three events of the Challenge. In the full ranked tournaments, the prize pool was around £ 150,000 and the winner's score was 3600.

Main tournament
As in the previous event, there were 40 cancellations, so that only 310 of the 350 registered players took part in the 6 qualifying rounds. The 32 participants of the main tournament were played in them. After all, in contrast to Event 2, Neal Foulds was again represented by a top 8 player. The best players did not join the game until the last 128 round. The popular game mode for a top 32 tournament - best of 9 up to the quarter-finals, best of 11 in the semifinals and the best of 17 final - was also used here as in the other two events.
Century breaks
The highest break of the tournament was made by Karl Broughton . Twice, in the last qualifying round and in the first main round, he scored 140 points in a row.
