Event 2

The first event of the Strachan Challenge 1992/93 was a snooker tournament for the 1992/93 season , which was held from December 12 to 21, 1992. The Strachan Open earlier in the year had suffered from the fact that the top players had stayed away because of the low value for the world rankings . Instead of canceling the tournament without replacement, an attempt was made with a series of tournaments aimed specifically at the lower placed players. The associated tournaments were declared as "minor ranking" tournaments for which only a tenth of the usual ranking list points were awarded. Instead of large, public venues, they went to snooker clubs and limited the final round to 32 players. The billiard cloth manufacturer Strachan could also be retained as a sponsor for the new concept.

The venue of the first was three tournaments Snooker Lodge of Jimmy White in Aldershot about 50 km south of London . The world number three did not take part himself. The number 5 Neal Foulds was the highest placed participant, but he was eliminated in the preliminary round. But other top players didn't make it to the final either. This was achieved by Joe Swail and Stefan Mazrocis , number 53 and 144 in the ranking. The Northern Irish Swail prevailed 9: 4 and thus achieved his only victory in a tournament for world ranking points.

Prize money / world ranking points

Prize money and points for the world rankings were the same in all three events of the Challenge. In the full ranked tournaments, the prize pool was around £ 150,000 and the winner's score was 3600.
