Justus Army

Johann Justus Heer (* December 7, 1840 in Matt im Sernftal ; † July 2, 1886 , other date: June 29, 1886 in Erlenbach ) was a Swiss Protestant clergyman.

Life

Justus Heer was the son of pastor Jakob Heer (born April 12, 1784 in Azmoos ; † January 24, 1864 in Zurich ) and his second wife Regula (née Isler). His half-brothers were the paleontologist , botanist , paleobotanist and entomologist Oswald Heer and the photography pioneer Samuel Heer (born September 12, 1811 in Matt; † April 27, 1889 in Lausanne ).

He enrolled at the University of Basel in 1859 and began studying theology, which he completed from 1860 to 1863 at the University of Zurich . During his studies he joined the Zofingia student association and the Theological Association.

After completing his studies, he was ordained in 1863 and he was parish administrator from 1863 to 1865 and then pastor in Erlenbach.

From 1881 he was a member of the Zurich Church Council and in 1885 he received his doctorate from the University of Basel. theol.

Justus Heer was married to Adele Koch (1840–1906) from Zurich.

Writing and theological work

Justus Heer was co-editor of the magazine Hirtenstimmen and from 1867 of the church friend. Leaves for evangelical truth and life . He wrote some theological writings that pursued an apologetic interest. He was one of the positive theologians , but advocated a clear distinction between a biblical-religious and a scientific worldview . He published a book about the life's work of his half-brother Oswald and dealt with the origins of names of various places in his home canton.
