The 1993 Embassy Snooker World Championship was the 56th edition of the World Snooker Championship . It took place from April 16 to May 3, 1993 at the Crucible Theater in Sheffield and formed the conclusion of the 1992/93 snooker season .
World champion became for the third time the Scot Stephen Hendry who defeated the Englishman Jimmy White in the final, as in the previous year . The Englishman Steve Davis , who played the highest break with 144 points, was eliminated in the round of 16 against the Scottish Alan McManus . The Thai James Wattana was the first East Asian to reach the semi-finals of a World Cup. In the quarterfinals he had won against John Parrott , the 1991 world champion. Ronnie O'Sullivan , who was 17 years and 5 months old at the time, qualified for the World Cup finals for the first time and was the second youngest player to succeed after Hendry in 1986 .
