The 1939 World Snooker Championship was a tournament that was held for the seventh time at Thurston's Hall in London , England . It remained the venue until the war-related break in games from 1941.
In the final there was a new edition of the previous year's final. Once again stood Sidney Smith and Joe Davis over. Davis won the final 37:24 and thus secured the thirteenth consecutive world championship title. His brother Fred scored the highest break with 113 points, but was eliminated in the semifinals with 14:17 against his brother.
For the second time, after 1933 , the Scot Walter Donaldson took part in the tournament again. It was not until 1982 that there was another Scottish World Cup participant in Jim Donnelly . Also for the second time, after 1936 , Stanley Newman , the younger brother of Tom Newman, was there, but lost his first game in the qualification with 12:19 against HW Laws.
The finalist from 1936 , world champion from 1952 and only Australian participant Horace Lindrum , was eliminated in his first round game with 14:17 against the Englishman Alec Brown .
