Tom Newman (* 1894 ; † 1943 ) was an English snooker and English billiards player. In addition to his playing successes, his distinctive chin made him known. His younger brother Stanley also played snooker and first appeared at the 1936 World Cup .

Career

Like most English billiards players, he started his career in the English Billiards discipline. From 1921 to 1930 he stood in every final of the World Professional Billiards Championship and won six titles.

At that time snooker was not as important as it is today, but Newman was one of the world's best in this game. He took part in the first snooker world championship in 1927 , where he was defeated in round 1 against Melbourne Inman with 3: 8. In 1928 he made it to the final qualifying round, but had to admit defeat to Fred Lawrence 7:12 . In the final of 1934 there were only 2 participants. He lost to Joe Davis 23:25. This was his best result at a World Snooker Championship.
