The 1981 World Snooker Championship took place from April 6 to April 20, 1981 at the Crucible Theater in Sheffield .

Steve Davis won his first world championship title against Doug Mountjoy after defeating the 1979 and 1980 world champions in the quarter and semi-finals. Mountjoy not only scored 145 in the semi-finals, the highest break of the tournament, but also the highest ever in a World Cup, for which there was a bonus of 5,000 pounds.
