The 1991 World Snooker Championship , which took place from April 20 to May 6, 1991 at the Crucible Theater in Sheffield , marked the end of the 1990/91 snooker season .
Defending champion Stephen Hendry failed in the quarterfinals to Steve James . In the final, John Parrott won 18:11 against Jimmy White and became (two years after his defeat in the final ( 1989 against Steve Davis)) for the first and only time snooker world champion. After 1984 and 1990 , it was the third of a total of six World Cup final defeats for White.
