The Pearl Assurance British Open 1991 was a snooker tournament of the 1990/91 season , which was played in Derby from February 17th to March 2nd . The Assembly Rooms in the central English city were the venue for the ranking tournament for the seventh time.
The Canadian Bob Chaperon , who won the tournament last year, was eliminated in the first round this time. The new world champion and world number one Stephen Hendry also proved his dominance in this tournament. He made it to the final and defeated the Englishman Gary Wilkinson there , if only just 10: 9. For the Scotsman it was the eighth win of the season, among other things he had won 5 of the previous 6 world ranking tournaments.
Main tournament
The top 32 of the world rankings were set for the main tournament. The players from 33rd place played three qualifying rounds, the 32 remaining players were then drawn into the top 32.
