The 1992 Pearl Assurance British Open was a snooker tournament for the 1991/92 season that was held from February 17th to 29th in the Assembly Rooms in Derby . It was the eighth edition of the ranking tournament and the third with Pearl Insurance as a sponsor.
Defending champion Stephen Hendry only made it to the quarter-finals this time. James Wattana and Jimmy White contested the final . The vice world champion from England won 10: 7 and took the title for the second time since 1987 .
In the round of 16, James Wattana managed a rare maximum break . It was the first in the history of the British Open and the 11th official 147-point break in professional snooker since 1982. For the Thai it was already the second in his career.
Main tournament
7 qualifying rounds were played, then half of the field for the main tournament was determined. The other half formed the top 32 of the world rankings , which were set directly for the first main round.
