1993

The 1992 Welsh Open was a snooker tournament of the 1991/92 season that was held from February 10 to 16, 1992 at the Newport Center in the South Welsh coastal town of Newport . It was the first world ranking tournament in Wales . This was followed by the Welsh professional championship , which last year took place in the same place with the same sponsor, the cigarette brand Regal .

The world number one Stephen Hendry lived up to his favorite role in the absence of number two Steve Davis and number three Jimmy White and won the first Welsh Open title. He defeated the Welshman Darren Morgan in the final with 9: 3.

Prize money / world ranking points

The prize money of £ 120,000 was the second lowest of the season among professional tournaments, only lower at the also newly introduced Strachan Open . However, the number of world ranking points was the same in all tournaments except for the world championship .
