Final round
The top 32 of the world rankings were set for the main tournament. They were drawn to the 32 players who had prevailed in the qualification in Plymouth last year.
final
Alan McManus , who had missed the title in Newport against Ken Doherty last year , got going and with three breaks by 90 points and one more contested break he was already 4-0 up in the half of the session. But Steve Davis , who had won the two previous finals with the Scotsman, got frame 5 despite a 59-point break from McManus and was back in the game from then on. At the end of the first session he had made it 4: 4. In the evening the Englishman then extended the series to 6 won frames in a row, and he also managed the only century break of the finals. McManus was able to level again to 6: 6, but after Davis won Frame 13 by just one point, he had the momentum on his side again. With two high breaks he also got the next two frames and thus the tournament victory with 9: 6.
