The ManBetX Welsh Open in 2020 were a world ranking tournament at the Snooker - season 2019/20 . From February 10th to 16th the tournament took place in the Motorpoint Arena Cardiff . For the sixth year in a row the event hall in the Welsh capital has been the venue and for the fourth time the tournament marked the end of the Home Nations series , which consisted of four tournaments in the four parts of the United Kingdom.

The defending champion was Australian Neil Robertson , who lost 5-0 to Kyren Wilson in the quarter-finals and thus failed to reach the final of a tournament for the first time since the Masters in mid-January after three finals in a row . Wilson had already played the highest break of the tournament with the 156th maximum break in snooker history and later reached the final of the tournament, but lost in this with 1: 9 to Shaun Murphy . This secured his 9th title in a world ranking tournament.

Prize money

There was £ 39,000 more in each of the four Home Nations series tournaments than in the previous season. The individual awards increased by £ 500 in the first two rounds and £ 1,500 in the round of 16, above which the amounts remained unchanged. With Mark Selby , a player had won two Home Nations tournaments for the first time, but also lost one, so that he was no longer eligible for the one million bonus for four wins.

Prize money

finalist £ 30,000
Semi-finalist £ 20,000
Quarter finalist £ 10,000
Round of 16 £ 7,500

All in all £ 405,000

Tournament results

As in 2018 , 127 world ranking professionals registered this year. Since the Welsh Federation had the right to award two wild cards to local amateurs, the two candidates had to play a qualifying game beforehand in order to play the main round participant. The qualifier was a replay of the final of the Welsh Amateur Championship from last year, through which Darren Morgan and Gavin Lewis had secured the wildcards. Up to the round of 16, four winning frames ( Best of 7 mode ) were played.
