Lei Peifan ( Chinese  雷佩 凡 , Pinyin Léi Pèi Fán ; born May 31, 2003 ), also Peifan Lei at international tournaments , is a Chinese snooker player from Hanbin in the center of Ankang ( Shaanxi province ). In 2019 he qualified for the professional tour .

Career

As a teenager, Lei Peifan was interested in sports and was particularly successful in football. He started playing snooker at the age of 10 and stayed with it. At the age of 12 he went to the Chinese World Snooker Academy and shortly afterwards won the national youth championship. In 2017, when he was 14, he took part in the U18 World Cup and reached the final straight away. Against the Pakistani Naseem Akhtar he was already leading 3: 1 and lost 3: 5. A year later both met in the quarterfinals, Lei won and reached the final again. But again he missed the title, this time 4-5 against his compatriot He Guoqiang. At the U21 World Cup , he was eliminated in the round of 16 against the Irish Ross Bulman.

In 2019, at the age of 16, he took part in the Q School to qualify for the professional tour . In the first tournament he had to fight his way through the first rounds, defeating Christopher Keogan and Luke Simmonds at least two ex-professionals 4-3 each before he was eliminated in round 4. Although he again had experienced opponents in the second tournament with Joe Delaney and Jeff Cundy , he made another round. In the third tournament he lost again in round 4 to the eventual group winner Barry Pinches , but he was one of the four best players in the overall ranking of all tournaments, the Order of Merit . With that he secured one of the 12 qualification places of the Q School and thus the right to start for the following two seasons of the professional tour.
