Ankang ( Chinese 安康 市 , Pinyin Ānkāng shì ) is a district-free city in the south of Shaanxi Province in the People's Republic of China . It is located at an altitude of 300 m in the valley of the Han Jiang River . The administrative area of the city of Ankang has an area of 23,529 km² and about 2.63 million inhabitants (end of 2016).
The Liujiaying site from the Warring States Period and the Qin and Han dynasties (刘家 营 遗址, Liújiāyíng yízhǐ ) has been on the list of monuments of the People's Republic of China since 2013 .
Administrative structure
At the district level, Ankang consists of a city district and nine districts. These are:
- Hanbin district (汉滨区), 3,652 km², 950,000 inhabitants, center and seat of the city government;
- Hanyin County (汉阴县), 1,347 km², 290,000 inhabitants;
- Shiquan County (石泉 县), 1,525 km², 180,000 inhabitants;
- Circle Ningshan (宁陕县), km² 3678, 70,000;
- Ziyang County (紫阳县), 2,204 km², 340,000 inhabitants;
- District Langao (岚皋县), km² 1851, 170,000;
- Pingli district (平 利 县), 2,627 km², 230,000 inhabitants;
- District Zhenping (镇坪县), km² 1503, 60,000 residents;
- District Xunyang (旬阳县) 3,554 km², 450,000 inhabitants;
- Baihe district (白河县), 1,450 km², 210,000 inhabitants.

There is an Office for Religious Affairs in Ankang. The city has been the seat of the Hinganfu Apostolic Prefecture of the Roman Catholic Church since March 28, 1928 .
